Comment Policy
I welcome polite, on-topic comments and friendly, appropriate social comments. I will delete any comment that violates a law, threatens me or anyone else, contains obscenities and/or profanities, or is wildly off-topic or inappropriate, such as ones that belong in the spam queue. Grey areas include comments in agreement with me but overly long (I will reply, with a polite hint to be more concise), polite, well-written ones of good length that disagree with me, ones that are only a little off-topic, and double posts. In such cases I will take all factors into account and then factor in how much time and energy I have and make an arbitrary decision. Some comments will be in disagreement with my views and worth a lengthy reply but are so long that they need to be addressed in a whole new post. I will address them in a post when I get to it. Whether I also approve them depends on their tone -- seriously-worded ones will be more likely to appear than slangy ones, e.g., and ones that have an air of true concern for issues will have more of a chance of visibility than dismissive or hostile-sounding ones. If I really cannot decide, and the commenter is new to the comboxes at The Rainey View, I will approve the first two and then if the tone, level of discourse etc. have not improved I will delete the next.
